McLennan women neutralize Nelson
McLennan women's basketball tamed the Nelson University JV Lady Lions this evening at The Highlands.
Scoring was slow for both squads in the opening quarter. Nelson led 8-6 with 5:30 to play. McLennan tied the game at eight on an Ar'Mya Amos-Horsley jumper. That shot started the 12-0 run that put McLennan up 18-8 with just under three minutes left in the first, and it would be 22-13 McLennan going into the second.
Nelson wasn't backing down and opened the second on a 9-3 run to pull within three, 25-22 midway through the period. McLennan stepped up following a timeout with a 10-0 run to lead 35-22 with 3:39 to go before the half. The Lions were held to just four points in the final minutes as McLennan pushed the lead to 18 at the break, 44-26.
McLennan controlled the second half leading by as many as 30 as the squad cruise to the victory.
Tajenae Gooden led McLennan with 12 points, and Nevaeh Otis added 10.
