Highlanders dominate NTJCAC Awards
McLennan Softball once again dominated the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Awards.
Head coach Chris Berry was named the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. He led the Highlanders to the conference championship with a 30-2 record and an overall record of 49-6 in the regular season. This is Berry's third time earning the accolade since taking over the program prior to the 2019 season.
First baseman Trinity Allen was selected as the Most Valuable Player. The sophomore from Cypress had a .542 batting average in conference play with 13 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and 62 RBI.
Kynlei Chapman was named the Pitcher of the Year. The freshman from Willis had a 6-1 conference record in the circle with a 1.31 ERA, allowing 39 hits, 22 walks and 12 runs with 65 strikeouts in 48 innings.
Allen and Chapman were both First-Team All-Conference selections along with Landrie Harris, Natalie Klenda, Ally Thompson, Mickayla Tosch, Tehya Pitts and MJ Nicholson. Harris, a redshirt-sophomore pitcher from Flower Mound, had an 8-0 conference record with a 1.33 ERA, allowing 26 hits, 12 walks and nine runs with 42 strikeouts in 42 innings. Klenda, a freshman pitcher from Wichita, Kansas, had a 9-0 conference record with a 1.53 ERA, allowing 38 hits, 11 walks, and 13 runs with 20 strikeouts in 50.1 innings. Thompson, a sophomore second baseman from Beaumont, had a .421 conference average with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 25 RBI. Tosch, a sophomore left-fielder from Rosenberg, had a .447 conference average with nine doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 37 RBI. Pitts, a sophomore centerfielder from Corinth, had a .430 conference average with 10 doubles, 16 RBI and 28 stolen bases. Nicholson, a sophomore designated player from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, had a .553 conference average with 13 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 43 RBI.
Macie Jansky, Lilli Piersons, Madison Levsey and Madison Garcia were all Second-Team All-Conference selections. Jansky, a freshman catcher from Hallettsville, had a .357 conference average with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 13 RBI. Piersons, a redshirt-sophomore catcher from Cypress, had a .391 conference average with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 12 RBI. Levsey, a freshman second baseman from The Colony, had a .390 conference average with five doubles, two triples, a home run and 15 RBI. Garcia, a sophomore right-fielder from Crosby, had a .366 conference average with three doubles, seven triples, two home runs and 21 RBI.
The No. 1 McLennan Highlanders will host the NJCAA Southwest District B Championship May 7-9 at Bosque River Ballpark.
