McLennan & Weatherford split softball doubleheader

Offense was on display as the McLennan and Weatherford softball squads squared off in a conference doubleheader in Weatherford this afternoon.
 
Weatherford took game one 20-18 in eight innings with Secilia Lopez taking the loss on the mound.
 
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first as Kenzie Chambers walked and scored on a Caitlyn Wong home run.
 
Six more McLennan runs scored in the top of the second. Julia Herzinger singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ka'Lyn Watson. Kadyn Trochim singled and Sidney Campion singled to score Herzinger. Chambers followed with a fielder's choice, putting Trochim out at second. Bailey Krolczyk reached on an error, bringing Campion in to score. Wong then singled to score Chambers and Krolczyk. Wong followed with a two-run homer to left field.
 
Weatherford tied the game with eight runs in the bottom of the third. Karli Manney singled, Sierra Nixon walked and Brooklyn Araujo singled to load the bases. Pyra Burns followed with a double, clearing the bases. Ayanna Williams singled and scored on a Kailyne Luna home run. Jesse Armstrong reached on an error and Lencia Powell singled. Manney also singled, loading the bases. Araujo then singled to score Armstrong and Powell.
 
McLennan responded with five runs in the top of the fourth. Chamber and Krolczyk both walked and scored on a double by Wong. Lindsey Evans then doubled to score Wong. Melayna Lopez followed with a two-run homer.
 
Weatherford added a run in the fourth as Burns doubled and scored on a single by Luna.
 
Two more McLennan run scored in the fifth. Chambers walked, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a double by Krolczyk. Wong then doubled to score Krolczyk.
 
Weatherford scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the McLennan lead to one, 15-14. Araujo singled and scored on a Jimenez home run. Burns followed with a solo home run. Williams single and Luna followed with a two-run homer.
 
Watson's solo home run in the top of the sixth extended the McLennan lead to 16-14.
 
Weatherford added a run in the bottom of the sixth. Nixon walked, moved to second on a ground out by Araujo, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Jimenez.
 
Williams' solo home run for Weatherford in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 16.
 
McLennan took the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth. Campion and Chambers both singled. Campion scored on a double steal, and Chambers scored on a sacrifice fly by Krolczyk.
 
Weatherford stole the win with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Nixon and Araujo singled. Jimenez walked to load the bases. Burns followed with a grand slam.
 
McLennan bounced back to defeat Weatherford 8-5 in game two with Cheyenne Floyd getting the win in the circle.
 
McLennan's first run came in the bottom of the first as Chambers walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Krolczyk.
 
Weatherford tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first. Nixon walked and Araujo both singled. Nixon then scored on a ground out by Jimenez.
 
Weatherford added three runs in the fourth. Manney and Nixon both singled. Araujo followed with a double to score Manney. Nixon scored on a wild pitch, and Araujo scored on a single by Williams.
 
McLennan added a run in the sixth as Wong doubled and scored on a single by Evans.
 
Weatherford's final run came in the bottom of the sixth. Haylee Villareal singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Powell. Manney singled, advancing Powell to third. Powell then scored on a wild pitch.
 
McLennan sealed the win with six runs in the top of the seventh. Rosemary Rivera and Chambers both singled and scored on a double by Krolczyk. Wong followed with a two-run homer. Lopez singled and was replaced by Genesis Rodriguez as a pinch runner. Herzinger followed with a home run.
 
McLennan continues conference play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday against Vernon at Bosque River Ballpark.
